SCULPTURAL BOWLS

Every Drop Counts Collection

This sculptural bowl has gone thru an evolution all its own. The first inspiration for this piece was rain falling on a skylight after a long drought. The primary focus was on the water droplets. The edge was smooth and rounded. Today the piece has evolved into a metaphor for the ocean and the beauty of the waters edge. Each piece is fired 5x at temperatures ranging from 1170F-1460F. Annealing, which means cooling the piece slowly, is important to this piece due to its varied depth.

Unity Coaster Collection

The Unity Coaster Collection was a labor of love inspired, I believe, by a tumultuous year. I’ve always loved the shape of the circle, but this year I was especially drawn to it. The circle as a symbol has extensive meaning including wholeness, infinity, and connection to others. These pieces are made using glass powders that are sifted into a circle. Colored powders and clear powders were blended to create a watercolor effect in the glass circles, so no two are exactly alike. The pieces are then capped with sheet glass in a second firing and in a third firing combined with a second layer of glass. All coasters were surface etched in a sandblaster, cleaned then fired a fourth time to create a smooth matte finish. Cork was applied as backing and they are each signed with the signature Glass Hart ‘H’. I hope these can be enjoyed in your home or shared with someone special as a symbol of connection and beauty.

WALL ART

Moment In Time Collection

This collection is made up of 12 pieces. The collection was inspired by the glass practice of sifting powders. I have always been struck by the beauty of the powders that fell away from the intended design-they are so delicate and beautiful in their elemental form. Each tap of the sifter creates a design of a single moment in time. As the earth revolves around the sun, so too do we follow our journeys, one moment at a time. This collection is a reflection of all the beautiful moments that make up our lives. These pieces were made by sifting many layers of glass, capping and firing them into sheet glass and combining them into a series of moments. Each piece was made by layering 7-8 layers of combined moments. You can imagine that laying out all these pieces would take up a lot of space, in fact my whole studio space! After the powders were sifted and the pieces were fired and combined, each piece went through a lengthy coldworking process to polish the edges. Some pieces were etched and silver leaf was applied to the front or back surfaces. Others had additional low temp firings to add textural elements. These can be purchased individually or in small groups and can be hung on the wall or sit cradled in a stand on a special shelf.
